The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to the current conversations in educational psychology. For this assignment, you will find one or more conferences that focus on topics related to educational psychology and write a brief reflection describing the sessions that you would attend and rationale behind your choices.
This task is very open-ended and you are free to approach it in any way you see fit. You are essentially on a treasure hunt, but you are deciding the treasure, the map, and the overall journey. I provide an overview of the task and general guidelines, but the rest is up to you. Be sure to focus on theorists, theories, or ideas from our course and please note that your post must demonstrate effort and thoughtfulness!
Objectives
Students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts and norms in educational psychology. (SLO 1)
Evaluate and apply concepts from scientific research in educational psychology. (SLO 2)
Participate in, and reflect on, scholarly presentations or discussions focused on concepts in educational psychology. (SLO 4)
What you will Do
Decide on an approach to the task. For example, you could do the following:
focus on a scholars work and note how interests or perspectives change over time
select a general theme or a particular concept and look at differences in perspectives or topics for a given year or multiple years
create an itinerary for a particular conference and explore sessions you would attend. For some conferences, you might actually find conference proceedings or actual session papers
Find a conference where Educational Psychologists would present their work and browse the conference program based on your approach from step #2.
Submit one discussion post containing your response to the discussion prompt
