You will write a personal reflection on working with sexual and gender minority groups. This reflection should assist you in processing what you have learned and developing an action plan to put what you learned into practice. Your reflection should be 3-5 pages in length. Double spaced. Times New Roman. 12 pt font. You will receive credit for this assignment by adequately addressing the questions below. In your reflection:
Evaluate your cultural competence and confidence in serving sexual and gender minorities. Do you feel prepared to work with and consider the unique needs of this group in your future social work practice? What can you do to increase your competence and confidence? Identify concrete actions you can take to do so.
How will what you learned about transphobia and homophobia influence your work as a social worker? As a member of your organization? As a member of your community?
Evaluate your MSW education so far. Do you think you have received enough training and exposure to the needs of sexual and gender minorities? Why or why not?
Finally, are the organizations you have worked in or currently work in preparation to meet the needs of this group. Are there ways these organizations currently oppress sexual and gender minorities? If so, what could be changed or improved?
