This discussion is on the beginnings of Independence of many Latin American nations from their European empires – primarily Spain and Portugal. Choose one question:
1, Discuss some of the early insurrections or rebellions. Were they successful? Why or why not? If you would prefer, you can do a compare/contrast of at least two.
2, Discuss the overall reasons for the insurrections/rebellions/revolutions. Were the causes primarily social, economic, religious, a combination? Explain, providing detail to shore up your position.
3. How did Spanish America differ from Portuguese Brazil in the move towards independence?
