This is not a book report; this is a book review. This assignment introduces you to the role of the novel or short story in history, and how works of fiction can supplement and illuminate aspects of history. This should be 5 to 6 pages in length, double spaced, 12 pt. font.
A Book Report is just a retelling of the books plot and storyline in your own words.
A Book Review is a review of the entire book, its purpose and how well the author achieves his purpose
A Book Review is also a personal reflection on the book. It carries your opinion about the book
It includes:
A brief introduction of the author
A brief summary of the narrative
Why did the author write this book?
What was the authors point of view?
What is the author trying to tell the reader and convince the read about?
Did the author succeed? What was convincing in the book? What did you feel was not convincing?
How is this book related to the historical period?
Did this book add to your understanding of the historical period? How or why not?
What did you like about the book? What didnt you like about the book?
In total, would you recommend this book? Why or why not?
