Your memo should be 1-2 pages, double-spaced as a .doc or .docx file. If you do not have Microsoft Word, then you can compose your memo in Google Docs and download your memo as a Microsoft Word .docx file. Please upload your memo in the designated submission section.
You have two tasks in this week’s memo.
1) In “The Jewish Question,” Marx wrote in the last sentence, “The social emancipation of the Jews is the emancipation of society from Judaism.” What did he mean by this?
2) Based on your understanding of the chapter on “Alienated Labor” (or “Estranged Labour” depending on the copy that you read) and the video clip, what are the possible consequences of alienation/alienated labor?
Your response to each question is worth 5 points.
Please feel free to discuss the different components of these questions with your classmates on the discussion board. Help each other gain a better understanding of the concepts and go over different examples that you can think of together. Hopefully, the contents that you post on the discussion board may help you write your memo. Please note, however, that the memos go through a plagiarism checking application. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you refrain from simply copying and pasting any content. I recommend that you use your own words and explanations at all times, unless you are specifically quoting your readings with proper citations.
